Ibro was born in Conakry, Guinea's capital city, and he is Susu. At 14 years old, he began training to become a musician at Simbaya. Simbaya is the suburb of Conakry renowned for its schools of traditional Guinean music and dance, and home to Djembe Master Famadou Konate. Ibro spent over 10 years studying the rhythmns of the Malinke, Susu and Fula people on both djembe and dunduns with Master Naby Camara, eventually specialising in the dunduns and becoming a Dundunfola.
Alongside his training as a musician, Ibro also studied the art of drum making with Master drum maker Mamadouba (Milla) Sylla.
Ibro has worked with many Guinean groups, including Ballet Watafre, one of Guinea's premiere ballets, performing for festivals, ceremonies and special occasions countrywide. During his time with Ballet Watafre, the ensemble worked as resident artists for a number of Western companies bringing students to study in Guinea.
